Last week, construction services company ISG invited six young people to experience a day on-site to explore the many different roles and talents that go into creating incredible spaces.

Young people from City YMCA and Sapphire Community Group were invited to visit the Post Building in Holborn, just weeks before completion of a redesign and fit-out for new residents Nationwide. We were introduced to a range of teams, from those responsible for planning and designing to the project manager making sure it all happens on time.
First thing, we met with Director Barry Perkins, who shared his career story from working as a carpenter to reaching Director level in ISG. We enjoyed an eye-opening presentation from the design team who showed us that there are ways to get into construction without any formal training - and that there’s far more to a beautiful office space than immediately meets the eye!

After lunch, we were decked out in five-point PPE (bright orange, as you can see from the photos below!) ready to experience an under-construction site. We promised not to reveal too many secrets, but the level of attention to detail, quality of craftsmanship and passion for a job well done shone through each element and every person we met.

The message of the day? There’s a career in construction for everyone, and they don’t all involve wearing a hard hat! Marketing, HR, design, finance - whatever your talent, there’s a space for you in the industry as long as you’re passionate about the work.

Thank you to ISG for working with us to arrange this visit as part of our Pass It On project.
