“I want to build relationships to not show discrimination. I want to show where we stand through my T-shirts. There should be no discrimination between white and black, so everyone can come and enjoy what we’re doing.”
This is the powerful statement David, one of our Hear Me Out! talent bond winners, wants to make with his social enterprise business, the Nooface T-shirt brand. He’s putting his talent for drawing to use for the community by designing, creating and selling T-shirts to fund food drops in his area, all with the help of Sapphire Community Group.
He said, “ I’ve never done anything like this before. I used to draw when I was younger, but I didn’t know where to put my talent. Since COVID-19, I started to go back into my talent and wanted to do some good.
“I started drawing as a habit when I was six. As I grew up, it withered out. During lockdown I decided to continue and it grew from there. I showed my family and said they liked it - they said, ‘we don’t know why you ever dropped it.’ They were really supportive.
“This is something I want to build on. I want to live in a society where we can come together as one with no racial discrimination, like we see in the US. I want the world to come together. We’re all one. It’s important to me because I know it can be hard for Black people to get around. Sometimes people will judge you based on your background. I want to fight for people who suffer discrimination, of any ethnicity.”
David will launch his brand at a local event and show his new designs for the first time. People can come and see his work and T-shirts, enjoy food and drinks, and enjoy themselves while learning what Nooface is all about. We can’t wait to see David’s success!
