Life is a journey filled with surprises, and sometimes young people encounter unexpected challenges that test their resolve and determination. Daniel, a young person from our network of Foyers, shares their inspirational journey of moving into their own accommodation with support from the Moving On Up fund. In partnership with LandAid, the scheme offers small grants of up to £1000 to help young people overcome barriers to independent living.

Daniel’s life changed forever when he and his partner found out they were expecting a baby. This meant that their living situation at the Foyer was no longer suitable. As Daniel and his partner embarked on this new adventure, they encountered significant hurdles. Securing the resources to make their new house a home was proving difficult. He needed to hire a van to transport their belongings, purchase essential appliances like a cooker and fridge freezer, and ensure a comfortable living environment for their baby with carpets and bedroom furniture.

Daniel was determined to create a home for his family and with the support of the Moving On Up Fund he was able to achieve his goal. Knowing they had financial support for essentials helped them set themselves up for the future.

“The Moving On Up Grant has really helped us set up home and get ready for our baby's arrival. It’s helped us make our new home more suitable for our baby to live in and it has helped us keep it a nice environment.” Daniel

Daniel's tenacity and drive, nurtured by the Foyer during his stay, have resulted in the personal development needed to create a home for his family. With a Moving On Up grant, he was able to overcome those final obstacles and begin family life on a steady financial footing, creating a loving nurturing home. We want to say a massive thank you LandAid for making stories like this possible.

“My hopes for the future are that I am looking forward to living a normal life with my new family in a house we can grow into and be happy.”  Daniel
