Last week, we celebrated the inspirational impact and remarkable achievements of staff and young people at the Room For Young People Awards. This year’s nominations were filled with stories of resilient character, determination and community action of young people and the dedicated staff who work with them. We were thrilled to be able to share in recognising and celebrating their accomplishments!

The Awards

The Room For Young People awards is a truly youth-driven event, with young people creating the six award categories, organising and hosting the event, and selecting each of the nomination winners and top champions. It’s clear from the award shortlist that all nominees showed great determination and commitment to helping other people and making a difference in their communities. We’re so proud that from all the nominations, we have seven winners and three top champions from Foyers!

Huge congratulations to Kayleigh Long from Swan House Foyer for receiving the ‘Innovative Action’ Top Champion award! The judges found her determination to make people happy truly inspiring. Whether dressed as an Easter bunny to deliver eggs to children in her local area, or as a carer for her younger sister with autism, Kaleigh has shown real creativity and vision in her engagement with the local community.

YMCA Crewe received the Top Champion award in the category of 'Community Action' for their exciting work on a resource for high school pupils. The pack helps children to better understand the stories and trauma of young refugees and asylum seekers joining their community – improving social inclusion, addressing discrimination and tackling isolation and loneliness.

We’d like to give a special shout out to Ellie Davis from Verve Place Foyer for being a 'Flying The Nest’ winner. The judges were impressed with Ellie’s confidence and leadership skills to take on the role of Ambassador in her Foyer, listening to and representing the residents’ views, getting involved in staff recruitment, and being a role model for others.

We’re thrilled that every winner in the 'Duck to Water' category is a Foyer resident! This award is given to individuals who've become involved in their community; volunteering or offering peer support like 'ducks to water'. Our special congratulations to Tori-Jade Davies from CHADD Foyer for taking the Top Champion place in this category! Tori has shown herself to be a natural leader, passionate about peer mentoring and helping others find their voice. Tori is a key member of both Power Pioneers and Your Voice committee in her Foyer. Big congratulations also to Charlie and Dominyk!

Entries for the 'Personal Achievement' categories were so strong that the judges awarded four winners! Celebrating success in the ‘Personal Achievement’ award are Leo Borowski (YMCA Crewe), Negasi Mulugeta (CHADD Foyer) and Foyer resident Georgia Cannings for achieving their goals, developing new skills and showing such great determination and passion to succeed!

Finally, in the 'Superb Staff' category, many congratulations to winner Beverly Ford from Swan House Foyer for her impressive work in developing and delivering an AQA certification. Created in collaboration with young people, it enables residents to leave their Foyer with a recognised qualification.

Huge congratulations to all the organisations, staff and young people who participated in this year's Room For Young People! Extra special thanks to Clarion Housing, LiveWest, InspireChilli and HAYN who are all partners in the R4YP event.
