Support not supervision - a fair deal for young parents
02/10/2009
Speaking on The World at One programme on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday 30th September, Jane Slowey, Chief Executive of the Foyer Federation, responded to Gordon Brown's call for 'supervised' homes for teenage parents.
"A successful transition for any young person, including a young parent, should be more than the keys to an isolated flat, a job with no prospects, a life most of us would not aspire to for our own children."
Our recommendation is for young parents to have access to a safe, supportive and balanced community in which to raise their children and achieve their own goals.
