Creating A Better Youth Offer
With funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the Foyer Federation is giving some of the Foyer residents an opportunity to help shape a 'transformational deal' that secures lasting personal and social change.
The aim of the project is to take the conditional agreement that lies at the heart of the Foyer model, known as the Foyer contract and apply a radical new approach that focuses on the development of 'assets'. The project will give young people the skills, resources and opportunities to move out of states of dependency and take up more positive roles to shape the communities in which they live in.
The project is being piloted in the south west and west midlands regions where Foyer residents are developing a National Investment Forum. The National Investment Forum will provide the involved residents with a space to explore in detail the impact of the Foyer, and in doing so, they will identify and access skills, resources and opportunity investments, build a solid asset base for education, employment, volunteering and other positive pathways, steer their peers away from anti-social behaviour and dependent lifestyles by articulating their positive experiences, and challenge the community, sector and Government to improve the investments made in young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
